This was used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the various damping technologies under conditions of high centrifugal forces acceleration and the associated steady stress field, and would also enable the integrity of the applications to be explored. The developed rig is used for the work described in this paper. The rig was developed from an existing vacuum spin rig facility, which had previously been used for rotating vibration measurements. This is a self-contained rig. with the drive motor, oil system, drive shaft and vacuum chamber mounted into a compact frame (Figure A21(a)).

Patsias Rolls-Royce pic, Experimental Vibration, SIN A-33, PO Box 31. Derby DE24 SBJ. com ABSTRACT Ceramic coatings are widely used in Thermal Barrier coating systems to protect the substrates from high operating temperatures. Over the last decade there has been significant research into the potential use of such coatings as damping treatments that has shown that they could provide significant amount of added damping to be of practical value in aero-engine components.
