Caroline Arthur, an Amateur photographer, took many photographs, and when the family returned home, she realized that she had another book.  After this initial success, editors asked Arnold and Hewett to collaborate on more animal books.  Arnold often chooses to write about endangered wildlife because she feels it is important for children to realize the plight of these animals. Because of the time and expense involved in each project, Arnold and Hewett often visit zoos and wild animal parks to gather information and to take photographs.

The majority of her recent illustrative work is for books that she has authored, although she continues to illustrate books written by her husband, Franz Brandenberg. Aliki has revised some of her books to include full­color illustrations and, in some cases, to revise the illustrations, including more females and a diversity of cultures.  Other dinosaur books were revised to reflect scientific name changes for some dinosaurs.  Aliki contributed text and illustrations to The Big Book for Our Planet, edited by Ann Durell (Dutton, 1993), and Page 18 contributed illustrations for Home: A Collaboration of Thirty Distinguished Authors and Illustrators of Children's Books to Aid the Homeless (HarperCollins, 1992).
